Peyton Reed Wanted Rick Moranis To Cameo In The First ‘ANT-MAN’

Ant-Man and the Wasp hit theaters this past Friday, opening to critical acclaim and top of the box office. It’s predecessor, 2015’s Ant-Man, earned similar praise and is considered one of the funniest offerings in the entire MCU, and according to director Peyton Reed, the film almost featured a cameo from a legendary comedy star.

While speaking to Screen Junkies, Reed stated that at one point during development, he wanted Ghostbusters star Rick Moranis to appear in a cameo role in the Paul Rudd’s super-powered heist film.

“We actually, at one point, attempted to get a Rick Moranis cameo in the first movie – still during the period, I think, where he wasn’t doing so much acting. I think he’s now gonna be on the CTV Scorsese-directed thing, which I’m super psyched about. But always, still, an unchecked box for me.”

While the directer didn’t specify what role he had in mind for Moranis, he did say that he’d like to find something for him to do in Ant-Man 3, and jokingly stated that the actor could play Scott Lang’s father.

Moranis, like Ant-Man, is known for his pint sized reputation in the classic Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, with other memorable roles in Space Balls, Ghostbusters, and The Flintstones. Moranis took an honorable hiatus from acting in 1997 to raise his two children, after the tragic death of his wife, Ann Belsky. Since then, he’s appeared in small voice over roles, such as Disney’s Brother Bear.

Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp is in theaters now, and stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michael Peña, Laurence Fishburne, and Michelle Pfeiffer. For more on Ant-Man, head on over to our Twitter for all the latest coverage.
