‪Djimon Hounsou Joins The Cast Of ‘SHAZAM!’ As The Wizard‬

Shazam! has had leaked photos, posters, and casting information out for months. The film recently wrapped filming, but there was a tidbit of information that never leaked. Guardians of the Galaxy star Djimon Hounsou has quietly been cast as the Wizard in Shazam!.

Hounsou will be playing in two major superhero films next year. He will reprise his role as Korath the Pursuer in Marvel’s Captain Marvel and now he will also be starring in Shazam! as the Wizard. The Wizard is the 3,000-year-old Egyptian sorcerer who gives Billy Batson (Asher Agnel) the power to become Shazam!.

Hounsou played Papa Midnite in 2005’s Constantine, another DC film. He will have starred in 4 major superhero films in total at the end of 2019, Constantine, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, and Shazam!. Hounsou also starred in films such as Never Back Down, Furious 7, Blood Diamonds, and Legend of Tarzan. He is currently doing something that not many actors can say they’ve done starring in properties for Marvel and DC.

Starring Asher Angel and Zachary Levi – Shazam! hits theaters April 5, 2019

Shazam!  – We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
