There’s been plenty of leaked set photos from Shazam! showing Zachary Levi in full costume. Fans have already adored what director David Sandberg has brought to life, but after many months we finally have our first official look at the beloved costume.
The image is a still from the movie and it comes from Entertainment Weekly.
We see Zachary Levi in full costume as Shazam doing a soda run with one of his fellow orphans, Freddy Freeman played by Dylan Grazer. Shazam is, of course, the 14-year-old Billy Batson transformed, so this image isn’t actually as weird as a grown man in costume hanging out with a young orphan.
The costume itself looks like it was ripped right from the comics and pulls from several different iterations of the character. David Sandberg had this to say about the inspiration of the suit’s cape,
“I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original because that’s something that sets him apart from Superman or Batman. It makes him feel a bit more Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I’m going for.”
While the suit does give off a “Golden Age” vibe, it also pulls from more recent comics with the hood from his New 52 stories and even the golden gauntlets from some of the animated movies.

Shazam! is scheduled to release in theaters on April 5th, 2019.
Captain Marvel is one of my favorite heroes and I only want the best movie possible, but the suit kinda reminds me of Adam West’s Batman and Nicholas Hammond’s Spider-Man from yesteryear.
