The return of Tallahassee, Little Rock, Columbus and Wichita is upon us!
After nearly 10 years of waiting, Sony has confirmed that the original cast, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson and Abigail Breslin, as well as director Ruben Fleischer will be returning for Zombieland 2. With the return of the cast and director, writer Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are penning the script.
In a statement, Columbia Picture president, Sanford Panitch, has this to say:
“This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time – and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigail. These are some of the most in-demand actors and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.”
The sequel will begin filming in January with a planned release in October 2019. Rumors of a sequel have been circulating since the original came out in 2009 but with the rising popularity of Stone and Eisenberg, as well as steady work for Breslin and Harrelson, it seemed like a sequel would never happen. The fact it’s happening shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, with Reese and Wernick finding success writing the Deadpool films and Fleischer currently finishing up another Sony film, Venom.
For a while it seemed the only continuation of the franchise would come from the failed Amazon tv show that never got past the pilot stage. I for one am very excited for this film, not only as a fan of the original but the idea must’ve been good enough to get Oscar winner Emma Stone back on board.
What do you think of the sequel? Is it 10 years too late or do you want to see the continuation of these heroes? Let us know @superbromovies on Twitter!
