It seems to be Aquaman‘s big week as tons of new details regarding the upcoming film have been released faster than the Flash. One of the new bits of info has to do with the main story, and Arthur’s main objective moves the film forward.

While visiting the Aquaman set last year, Comicbook.com were given new information regarding what the film is about on the surface level. The final objective is to stop Orm/Ocean Master from waging war on the surface world, but to get there Arthur Curry has to team up with Mera to retrieve the only item that can control the entire ocean and everything in it; the King’s trident.

You see, the quindent Aquaman used in Justice League isn’t the King’s one, it’s from the Queen. Meaning the really really powerful Trident is still out there somewhere, Aquaman‘s unit publicist Ernie Maluk explained.

“Aquaman goes on this quest to find out where the true trident, the king’s trident, is, (referring to quindent) not this trident, the dead king’s trident, which is really the trident you want. With this trident, you can control the whole ocean, everything. But only a true king can wield it in their culture.”

Aquaman himself Jason Momoa expanded on how he’ll have to use the trident for good.

“If I don’t step in and intervene, Orm’s just gonna take over the land. You think about all the harm we’ve done to the oceans, and are still doing, and if you lived under there, you would absolutely despise and hate these people that lived up there. Why wouldn’t you send a tsunami and just wreck the whole place? Why wouldn’t you? You burn up your cars and take the fossil fuels and put acid rain in the ocean and why wouldn’t you?”

During ComicBook.com’s visit on the set, they witnessed a scene being shot that included Arthur Curry and his Atlantean friend Mera using a script to find a hidden hologram message from the late Atlantean king. With this message, they find out how powerful the Trident is if wielded by the true king. The possessor has to prove their worth though, and here we’ll see Arthur Curry’s personal journey towards that goal.

After they read the message, they destroy it after realizing they are the ones who have to find it. Which means the search for the Trident begins, and this is an Indiana Jones adventure if I’ve ever heard one.
