Our First Official Look At Billy Batson In ‘SHAZAM!’ Features Major DCU Easter Eggs

In the buildup to this week’s San Diego Comic-Con, DC has gone full force in their promotion of upcoming films Aquaman and Shazam!. Not only have we gotten our first official look at Zachary Levi as Shazam but we now have our firt look at Asher Angel as Billy Batson. And from the looks of the image Shazam! will feature major nods to the DCU’s past films.

The new image courtesy of Entertainment Weekly features Billy Batson and his friend Freddy Freeman. As you can see upon further inspection the image has a number of easter eggs from Man of Steel, Justice League, and more. If you look behind the two characters there is an issue of Time Magazine which features an image of the Kryptonian ships from Man of Steel, a newspaper clipping with the headline “SUPERMAN IS BACK” showing how the world has reacted to his return in Justice League. Along with these easter eggs are some less subtle ones such as Superman hat, the Batarang, and the Batman action figure. And it looks like Freddy is holding in the little bag a certified authentic bullet that bounced of Superman himself.

Based on this new image Shazam! is going to feature major nods to the past DC films which should excite many fans. It will be interesting to finally see how this all comes together on screen but well have to wait for next year for the film’s release.  Thankfully, however, we are due to get our first trailer this week at SDCC. So stay tuned to SuperBroMovies for any updates on the film.
