For fans of the DC universe, there is one villain whos popularity has been fueled by his enigmatic nature, The Joker. The Clown Prince of Crime has long been Batman’s arch enemy but we’ve never had a clear-cut origin. Sure there have been adaptations of it but its never been agreed upon by everyone, but it seems the upcoming Joker solo film aims to do just this. And according to a new report, we have a number of details about The Joker’s identity.
According to That Hashtag Show, Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker film will give him a new name that has been previously seen. In the comics and past films, The Joker has been referred to as Jack Napier at times, but the new film will give him the name Arthur Fleck. Supposedly Fleck will return home to live with his aging mother, Penny, in her apartment. He will then meet Sophie Dumond, the single-mother set to be played by Zazie Beetz, and begin his descent into madness.
The film may also include Robert De Niro as the late-night-TV host Murray Franklin. Along with these characters Thomas Wayne will also feature in the film, described as “cheesy, tanned” and rich-looking (remember this is from the Joker’s POV), and that he will be in his 60s.
It will be very interesting to see how this film really tackles The Joker’s origins and how his identity was shaped into the twisted man he is today.
