While Marvel Studios continues to keep their upcoming film plans post- Avengers 4 close to heart, they may already be planning very far ahead in the future. The newest rumor to hit the web suggests that Marvel could be getting ready to replace Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man soon. Specifically, with a fairly new character from the comics named Riri Williams, aka Ironheart.
She’s not an extremely popular character but could be what the MCU needs after Iron Man eventually retires (or dies but we don’t want to think that). The rumor is based on a tweet from the organization called Black List sharing one of their top scripts, which happens to be titled IRONHEART. The synopsis describes the character and her relationship with Tony Stark on her journey to becoming a hero.
The Black List is known for sharing some of the top scripts in Hollywood from up and coming screenwriters, in this case Jada Rodriguez. Those who have read it praise the script as one of the most fresh takes on the superhero genre. That’s high praise considering the high amount of scripts that go through their system.
That Hashtag Show adds that the screenplay could’ve been written due to Rodriguez being commissioned to write it by Marvel. She doesn’t own the IP obviously, so this seems like the logical explanation. Whether or not this is completely true remains to be seen, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we see this character introduced in the future.
