This casting comes off the heels of acting legend Robert De Niro and up and comer Zazie Beetz joining the film. Beetz is set to play a single mother who begins a relationship with Phoenix’s character before his transformation into the Joker. De Niro will portray a TV host who will serve as a nemesis to the Crown Prince of Crime.

Conroy is no rookie to the DC Universe, she voiced Superman’s mother, Martha Kent, in both All-Star Superman and Superman: Unbound. Before Conroy was approached for the part in Joker, it was reported that 2018 Oscar winner Frances McDormand was offered the role but eventually turned it down.

Plot details for Joker are being kept under wraps, although, it’s been reported the film will draw heavily from the Alan Moore origin of the character. The Hangover director Todd Philips will helm the film with Martin Scorsese set to produce.
