After starring in the cult hit Upgrade, Logan Marshall-Green could be getting a real-life upgrade as he throws his hat in the ring for the role of Scott Free aka Mister Miracle in DC’s New Gods.
The proposed casting would give Marshall-Green his second role in a superhero film, his first being Shocker (for 15 minutes) in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay is currently set to direct DC’s upcoming New Gods film based on Jack Kirby’s creations. One of the lead characters featured in the comic stories is Mister Miracle, the superhero raised on Darkseid’s home planet of Apokolips.
On Twitter, Michael-Green officially put his name on the list of actors wanting to play the classic DC character. After much agreement from fans, the director herself Ava DuVernay replied to him with a pretty positive tweet.
Of course, nothing is set in stone and this is just a Twitter interaction, but one must think she’s at least considering the idea of casting him in the titular role. Although he’s mostly had supporting roles in the past, his recent breakout performance in this year’s Upgrade should let you know he’s the real deal. I personally think he’s a really great choice for the role, and I’m sure other fans will rally up behind in support.
The project is still in early development so I wouldn’t expect any major casting announcements anytime soon. For now, I think we can probably expect more actors to publically throw their names out there like this for characters such as Big Barda and Orion.
