With the whirlwind of controversy surrounding the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy and its director, there are now sources alluding to the very possible reinstatement of James Gunn.
According to Variety, the outpour of support from the cast with their open letter yesterday has seemingly given the last big push towards the director’s current status with Disney/Marvel. They reported the following statement:
“Sources say there has been a growing feeling that Gunn could be reinstated, especially because Marvel and Disney have been unusually radio-silent on who could replace him since the firing. Production is slated to start at the top of 2019, and following Gunn’s removal from the film, it was thought that Marvel and Disney would need to move quickly to replace him, since the replacement would likely have to do some work on the script.”
Apparently, insiders believe that the only thing putting the final decision on hold is the absence of Walt Disney chairman Bob Iger, due to him being on vacation. Further comments from Disney are still on hold, says Variety.
