Warner Brothers and DC are developing a Supergirl film. There is no word on who will play the heroine or who will direct the film. This comes as a surprise as most of us were expecting a Superman announcement. No word yet on what will happen with the Man of Steel sequel, but this opens a door of possibilities considering Supergirl’s story.
The film will be written by Oren Uziel. He has written 22 Jump Street, Cloverfield: Paradox, and the current Sonic the Hedgehog film. As of right now, no word on whether Henry Cavill will appear in the film as Superman. Supergirl currently has a series on CW produced by Greg Berlanti and starring Melissa Benoist, the show is in its fourth season.
Supergirl is just one of many films that have been announced by DC/WB. Birds of Prey, The Batman, and of course Wonder Woman: 1984 are all in various stages of production. While Aquaman and Shazam! are set to release in the coming months. They also have Todd Phillips’ The Joker film, that is separate from the DCU, in production. DC seems to be trying to turn the tide on the narrative of their films from a negative to a positive after the fall of their Justice League film. Aquaman will release in December followed by Shazam! in April of 2019.
