Hasbro held a meeting and discussed plans for future properties. They recently acquired My Pet Monster, Luna Petunia, and Power Rangers among others from Saban. In the meeting, they discussed their film properties. Among those film properties, of course, the teenagers with attitude were included.
Hasbro plans to follow the same model they used for Transformers. With the first film ultimately established, this lays weight for a foundation on a universe. There are a lot of things they can do with the Power Rangers considering the property they own. They said they will team up with a studio to produce a sequel.
Most likely, the sequel will be through Paramount which is the partner they’ve used for their G.I. Joe franchise, Transformer franchise, Battleship, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They also have their All Spark production company they have been producing through as well. Considering the negativity that the film got by fans and critics alike this is a bold move by Hasbro. They’ve done pretty well adapting their original properties though, so I’m sure they’re confident they can shatter the box office with a Power Rangers franchise.
By now, most of us have seen the 2017 feature film Power Rangers currently streaming on Hulu. The ending was a tease for the Green Ranger, Tommy Oliver. They followed the mythos of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers well in the first film. The cast has said that want Tommy cast as a female, which would be interesting. Whether or not director Dean Israelite will follow wasn’t mentioned. They also didn’t say anything about the cast but considering that this is a sequel and not a reboot I’m sure the cast will remain the same.
