Set phasers to hype! Star Trek: Discovery‘s second season is getting a huge addition in the form of Ethan Peck as Mr. Spock himself.
For those few that are unfamiliar with Spock, he’s the half-human, half-Vulcan science officer on the starship USS Enterprise. It makes sense that Spock would appear after the season one finale of Discovery which found the titular ship coming face-to-face with the Enterprise.
Peck, at first, seems like a bit of question mark, his most notable screen credit being ABC’s 10 Things I Hate About You series that ran from 2009-2010. Despite this, it seems like showrunner Alex Kurtzman is thrilled by the opportunity to bring Peck aboard, saying:
We searched for months for an actor who would, like them, bring his own interpretation to the role. An actor who would, like them, effortlessly embody Spock’s greatest qualities, beyond obvious logic: empathy, intuition, compassion, confusion and yearning. Ethan Peck walked into the room inhabiting all of these qualities.
Star Trek: Discovery‘s first season’s reception only got better and better as it went on, so it seems like Kurtzman and co. are making the right call by introducing Spock in the flesh. Since Discovery is a prequel, perhaps we’ll get a deep dive into what made him into the character we know and love from the original series and movies. The possibilities are truly endless here.
