Ever since its release, fans have wanted another solo Doctor Strange movie to come. We got to see him again in Avengers: Infinity War and the demand is even higher now. We knew we’d get one and if anyone is benefitting from this, it’s Doctor Strange himself, Benedict Cumberbatch.
For the first film, Cumberbatch was paid around $3 million for his role. With Doctor Strange 2 expected to start filming next spring, with the possibility of a six month shoot, this is bad news for another section of Cumberbatch fans. Before he was a master of the mystic arts, Cumberbatch was Sherlock Holmes. He still is, but with how busy his net spring is looking, there may be no room for him to be able to shoot the popular series.
When he was initially asked about his return to Sherlock, Cumberbatch only said maybe. He’s established himself as a major player in the Marvel Universe so it makes sense that his priority is with that series. If he is to return to the BBC show, it would be around 2020 when the show comes back. Let it be known that his co-star in the show, Martin Freeman, hasn’t been approached for anything regarding the series.
So, what it looks like is that we’ll see a lot more of Doctor Strange in the near future. Assuming he returns in the Infinity War sequel, and takes the $9.5 million dollar offer, we can expect a healthy dosage of the hero in future MCU films.
