Fans of James Gunn may not have to wait long for his next movie. Following Gunn’s dismissal from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 over offensive past tweets, it appears that Sony Pictures intends to release his next film as early as November.
Confused? Maybe this will clear things up: on the day that Gunn was fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, he was due to announce a project at San Diego Comic-Con. He even hyped it up on his social media, posting the image above, but due to the controversy surrounding his firing, they quietly canceled his appearance.
Despite that cancellation, Sony has confirmed that a project known simply as Untitled James Gunn Horror Film is due to release on November 30th. It’s unknown at this point what this project could be. Many have speculated that it’s either an adaptation of PS4 cult hit Bloodborne or Japanese manga Berserk.
While Bloodborne fits more with the horror angle, it seems unlikely that Gunn was able to film a film based on that big an IP in secret. It’s still unknown Gunn’s capacity on the project is. Due to the mystery and close release date, it’s safe to say that Gunn is acting as either a screenwriter, producer, or both here.
