When it first debuted, Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ was marketed as an extension of the already built Marvel Cinematic Universe. Commercials and social media accounts were filled with the hashtag #ItsAllConnected and fans were eager to see just how the show would deal with the events of the films they knew and loved.
Within the show’s 5 seasons, Agent Coulson, portrayed by Clark Gregg, and his team of covert agents have dealt with the events of films like Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War and even name-dropped Thanos during the final few episodes of the latest season this past spring.
While the season ended with none of the characters being affected by “The Snap” that occurred during the final moments of Avengers: Infinity War, the creative powers-that-be have played coy about a potential crossover where Coulson, May, Daisy, FitzSimmons, and Mack deal with the ramification of such a universe-shattering moment in cinematic history.
On the blu ray and digital home copies of Avengers: Infinity War, the film’s directors Joe and Anthony Russo, and screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus discussed the moments that took place in a town the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are very familiar with, New York.
During the battle between Tony Stark, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and the Children of Thanos, Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian, Co-writer Stephen McFeely brought up the moment where Wong used a portal to chop off the hand of the Obsidian.
“The big question is where is that hand,” said McFeely while co-director Joe Russo teases, “It’s still in Washington Square Park.” As far as what ends up happening to that hand, co-writer Christopher Markus chimed in with, “Tune into ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'”
Ever since the “death” of Coulson during the events of 2012’s The Avengers, he has been assisting with their heroics from the shadows. Many fans were upset that the end of season 5 did not end with any connection to Infinity War, it seems as if the door is open for an upcoming crossover event to see just how the world is dealing with Thanos’ actions.
What do you think? What kind of crossover would you like to see happen during season 6 of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’? Let us know in the comments below and @superbromovies.
