During an interview with Total Film Magazine, Tom Hardy revealed that when he first signed on to do Venom, he agreed to do a trilogy for the anti-hero.
“I’m open to whatever you want to do with it,” he says. “We’ve signed up for three of them. So it’s very much an open case. We’ll see what people’s responses are to it. I think it’s an awesome character. I love playing both of them. It’s an amuse-bouche, and for Sony, it’s the Venom-verse launched in isolation, as it were.”
As we know, Sony is expected to make Venom in its own universe, separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which includes Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
“We all prepped for it to be a standalone universe. So whatever Sony want to attach to it at a later date, it’s a fulcrum piece. But let’s see what happens when it lands.”
Sony is betting that Hardy’s Eddie Brock would be the start of their version of the MCU, but I wouldn’t rule out Sony revisiting the idea of letting Venom joining Spider-Man in the future if the standalone movie doesn’t pan out.
