Ben Mendelsohn’s Role In ‘CAPTAIN MARVEL’ Confirmed

Thanks to the newly released first-look exclusive from Entertainment Weekly, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe now know what role the always-villainous Ben Mendelsohn will be playing in Captain Marvel.

Mendelsohn — who has recently played the bad guy in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Ready Player One — will be playing Talos, the leader of Skrulls who spearheads an invasion of Earth.

While the original report of his casting from Variety stated that he would likely be playing the leader of the Skrulls, the exact character had not been confirmed until now.

via EW:

But before long, Carol finds herself back on Earth with new questions about her past. And she’s got a formidable enemy in the form of the Skrulls — the notorious Marvel baddies made all the more dangerous by their shape-shifting abilities. Ben Mendelsohn plays their leader Talos, who spearheads a Skrull invasion of Earth.

The Skrulls are a race of extraterrestrial shapeshifters that made their debut back in 1962’s Fantastic Four #2.  Given the inclusion of Ronan the Destroyer and the Kree in Captain Marvel, some fans are speculating that Larson’s Carol Danvers is going to find herself in the middle of the Kree-Skrull War.

In the comics, while Talos was born without the ability to shapeshift like other Skrulls, he instead has cyborg parts and enhanced strength. A decorated military commander who is feared due to his status as an esteemed warrior, he is known as “Talos the Untamed.”

Marvel Comics

Mendelsohn is part of a stacked cast that includes the Academy Award-winning Larson (Room), Samuel L. Jackson  (Pulp Fiction), Jude Law (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Ben Mendelsohn (Ready Player One), and Lee Pace (reprising his role as Ronan from Guardians Of The Galaxy).

Captain Marvel is the next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, followed by the still untitled Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019.

Captain Marvel releases in theaters March 8, 2019.

The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.  Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
