Entertainment Weekly has released the first image from the upcoming Marvel Studios film Captain Marvel.
Starring Brie Larson, Captain Marvel is the first MCU film to have a female character in the lead role. Looking to recreate the success of DC’s Wonder Woman (just saying DC & success in the same sentence is strange, but true nonetheless), Captain Marvel is also rumored to be one of the strongest heroes in the MCU.
Given the after-credit scene of Avengers: Infinity War, the rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes certainly better hope so.
As for the new photo, Larson initially teased the news in a brief (and painfully corny) Tweet last night, asking Entertainment Weekly if they wanted to “break the internet”:
Along with the image, EW released a small bit of information that is sure to get fans excited:
Captain Marvel sidesteps the traditional origin-story template, and when it begins, Carol already has her powers. She’s left her earthly life behind to join an elite Kree military team called Starforce, led by Jude Law’s enigmatic commander.
Larson is not the only big name attached to Captain Marvel, as Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One), and Lee Pace (reprising his role as Ronan from Guardians Of The Galaxy) are all set to star. According to Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige, much of the movie will take place “in outer space.”
Captain Marvel is the next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, followed by the still untitled Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019.

Captain Marvel releases in theaters March 6, 2019.
The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Set in the 1990s, “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
