This DC Universe streaming service just keeps chugging along as Deadline has announced the female lead for the upcoming Swamp Thing series!

Crystal Reed, best known for her role as Sofia Falcone in Gotham and Allison Argent on Teen Wolf, has just been cast as Abby Arcane in what’s shaping up to be a pretty impressive series. Although it’s a bit odd to have Reed appearing in yet another DC live-action property, this isn’t the first time it has happened. After all, Mark Strong is still playing Dr. Sivana in Shazam! after playing Sinestro in Green Lantern. What matters is that Reed is a competent actress that has the potential to really make this role sing.

Produced by James Wan and directed by Underworld‘s Len Wiseman, the aim of the series appears to be to get as close to Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson’s legendary comic as possible. This extends to the character description Deadline provided below:

Smart and caring, CDC Doctor Abby Arcane’s (Reed) strong sense of empathy puts her at the center of a horrific life-threatening epidemic in her hometown, where she faces emotional demons from her past… while a chance meeting with scientist Alec Holland takes her into a world of horror and the supernatural, and of the elemental creature known as Swamp Thing.
