Ed and Lorraine Warren get another chapter in their infamous story. The Conjuring 3 is in active development and could hit theaters as soon as 2020. Producer Peter Safran will return to produce the film after producing every film in The Conjuring Universe to date.
David Lindsey Johnson has been attached to write the film after writing this year’s Aquaman, contributing to The Nun, and co-writing 2016’s The Conjuring 2. James Wan directed the first 2 Conjuring films and built the foundation for the Universe, but a director has not been attached to the project yet and it’s unclear whether he will return to direct another film in the franchise.
Details on the film itself are scarce since this is so early in the production process, but it looks to take the story of Ed and Lorraine Warren in a different direction than the first two films. Early drafts have our favorite Paranormal Investigators traveling to London to investigate the case of a man who is possessed and haunted by the spirit of a werewolf.
The Conjuring 3 will be the 6th installment of the highly successful Conjuring Universe. The Nun was the latest installment in the franchise and has brought in $133 million worldwide since its release on September 7th. This brings the franchise’s total gross to over $1.3 billion with no sign of slowing down.
