Just as the first set photos from the Joker film hit the web, we have our first official look at Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role.

Director Todd Phillips took to Instagram to release the first official image of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, known in this film as Arthur Fleck. Some had already noticed the body transformation prior to the new images, but it’s even more apparent here that Phoenix is going all out for this role. Check it out:

With Joker being the first Elseworld DC film to hit theaters next year, the studio is banking a lot on the success of this. Whether or not the film meets expectations, the outcome will likely affect what other plans they have for Elseworld stories. As of right now, it looks great.
