God of DC Comics, Geoff Johns, has found his Stargirl for the upcoming DC Universe drama.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nickelodeon alum Brec Bassinger has been cast as the leading star of the upcoming DC streaming service exclusive series. Johns’ desire to create this series is that this is the first character he created that launched his career in comic books.
The character Stargirl was made in honor of Johns’ late sister Courtney, who “died in the 1996 explosion of TWA Flight 800.” Therefore, it was with utmost care that Johns would pick the perfect person to portray this character.
“There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl, and after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger. Brec’s warmth, strength, humor and positive energy are core to who Courtney Whitmore is. I’m so grateful she’s signed on for the role,” Johns said.
This series is set to be produced by Johns himself, alongside other executives such as Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Though it remains unclear whether Johns is writing most of the episodes, he will be penning the show’s pilot.
With casting already underway, production shouldn’t be too far behind to commence. The DC Universe streaming app launched last week on Batman Day, and its first exclusive series Titans is set to premiere on October 12th and drop an episode every Friday.
