After months and months of speculation regarding who would be joining Margot Robbie’s all star, all female gang of heroes in the highly anticipated Suicide Squad spinoff Birds of Prey, two A-list actresses have finally been tapped to join the team.
As first reported by Variety, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Sky High, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) has been cast as Huntress while Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Gridiron Gang, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’) will be playing the Black Canary.
They will be joined by Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn in a film that will reportedly focus on the team coming together, along with Renee Montoya, to save the life of a young Cassandra Cain from an evil crime lord, previously reported to be Black Mask.
This news confirms news that Warner Bros were looking to bring in a more diverse cast to play the iconic characters form the pages of DC Comics, and shows that they are willing to take risks to produce the best, most inclusive film possible.
