One of the biggest selling points of the Deadpool 2 home release is the unrated extended version called the Super Duper Cut. Although it did not change the film drastically, it features a large set of alternate jokes and longer action sequences. It turns out that the Super Duper Cut will not be the only alternate version of the movie. Fox has now confirmed that there will be a PG-13 version of the film that will be released on December 21, 2018.
The studio nor the filmmakers have detailed what changes that will be made to the movie, though it is certain that the number of sex jokes and use of profanity will be softened considerably. Given the crude nature of the title character, it is likely that the PG-13 cut will have major changes made to the action and humor since the theatrical edition and the Super Duper Cut are predominantly adult oriented.
The release date of this new cut was chosen for December 2018 because Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel was recently pushed back to February 2019, thereby leaving a slot open for another Fox release to come out on that specific day. We shall see how different this new cut for Deadpool 2 will be in comparison to the two existing versions later this year.
