Ever since it was announced that Disney would absorb 21st Century Fox and its assets the question n everyone’s mind has been “When will the deal close?” Well, it looks like that question has finally been answered. It has just been reported by a top exec at Fox that the deal will close at the beginning of next year, January 1st to be exact.

Peter Rice, the 21st Century Fox president who is set to join Disney as a top TV exec when the deal closes, revealed today that the deal will be ready to close January 1st. The deal is still on track to close during the first half of 2019 but Fox is logistically ready to be absorbed on the 1st of the year. However, it is a number of regulatory processes that will drag the full completion of the closure to a later date.

What this means for current projects at Fox is that anything that begins production before the 1st of the year will be completed, for the studio’s X-Men films this includes such projects as Gambit, Dark Phoenix, and New Mutants. It will be interesting to see what will be the first project to come out of Disney once they attain the rights to the Fox-owned properties.
