LeBron James may be taking us back to Camp Crystal Lake.
The NBA star and his production company Springhill Entertainment are in talks to produce Vertigo Entertainment’s reboot of Friday the 13th. James has been making moves to transition into Hollywood for some time now. He has executive produced several projects including Space Jam 2, and branched out into acting for 2015’s Trainwreck.
The original movies follow the story of Jason Voorhees and his mother as they stalk the unsuspecting teenagers at Camp Crystal Lake. Despite not appearing in the first film, Jason Voorhees has become one of the most iconic horror characters ever appearing in 11 films that stretched from the Friday the 13th: Part 2 in 1981 all the way to the first reboot in 2009. Despite being the second highest grossing film in the franchise, the 2009 film never got a sequel.
With Blumhouse’s Halloween raking in $77.5 million in its opening weekend and last year’s It pulling in $700.4 million worldwide, it’s no surprise that Jason is getting another chance on the silver screen. With the most famous player in basketball producing one of the most iconic horror characters of all time, the sky is the limit for what the new Friday the 13th could be.
