One of the biggest mysteries that still goes unsolved to this day may have been partially revealed. In a new report, it seems like we finally know what exactly Marvel has up their sleeve for Phase 4 and it should excite many of you. Along with a possible release date for Black Widow, the MCU may be looking to release The Eternals in 2020 and will be the second prequel out that year.
Thanks to our friends at ThatHashtagShow, we now not have the release date slated for both Black Widow and The Eternals, but also new plot details for the latter that hints at what’s to come. If you’re a big fan of the comics, you’ll see that they are ready to do the characters justice. Check it out below:
The story of ‘THE ETERNALS’ is set millions of years ago when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans, creating the super-powered individuals as well as more villainous off-shoots known as Deviants. The two groups went on to battle each other throughout history to see which would eventually become the ultimate race. The story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi, who relishes moving amongst humans.
According to their sources, Marvel Studios is planning to release Black Widow on May 1, 2020 and The Eternals on November 6, 2020. This means production on both films will begin in 2019 so we could hear casting details as early as this year. The Eternals seems particularly unique, the film is set millions of years ago so it gives ample space for the filmmakers to do their things and maybe set up films down the line.
Chloe Zhao, who recently directed the critically-acclaimed film The Rider, is set to helm The Eternals with a script from Matthew and Ryan Firpo, two of Blacklist’s top writers of 2017. Interestingly enough, not only will this be the third MCU film directed by a woman, but it will also continue the trend of them being prequels.
