Following the confirmation by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy that the Boba Fett spinoff was dead, details about the project are beginning to emerge. According to Entertainment Weekly, the movie would have focused on the group of bounty hunters that appeared alongside Fett in The Empire Strikes Back.
At one time, Josh Trank was attached to the Boba Fett project. His film was rumored to take place after the events of Return of the Jedi and would have seen a new character take up the mantle. That all fell apart when Trank’s behavior on the set of 2015s Fantastic Four came out leading Lucasfilm to make a change.
Logan director James Mangold was brought in earlier this year to revive the movie but after the financial disappointment of Solo: A Star Wars Story, all spinoff films were put on hold. Then Lucasfilm moved ahead with Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian, which seemingly put an end to the idea of seeing a Fett movie anytime soon.
We can assume that EW’s details were ones that would have been seen in Mangold’s film. The bounty hunters that appeared Fett on the Star Destroyer in the iconic scene were Bossk, IG-88, Zuckuss, 4-Lom, and Dengar. The group of hunters was described as some of the galaxies best, so having them appear in Fett’s solo movie would have set up an interesting story, unlike anything we have seen in live-action Star Wars.
