The ending of Avengers: Infinity War left a devastating mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole, wiping out a large portion of its superheroes as well as innocent bystanders. However, fitting with Thanos’s goal of wiping only half of the universe, several franchise regulars have been unaffected by his actions such as Steve Rogers/Captain America and Tony Stark/Iron Man. With the release of the Infinity War novel The Cosmic Quest Volume 2: Aftermath, it turns out that a few additional characters have survived Thanos’s universe-dividing snap: Erik Selvig and Darcy Lewis, both of whom are featured in the Thor movies.
Writer Brandon T. Snider recently posted a tweet announcing the book’s release. complete with pictures of the front and back of the book. The back side notably features a plot synopsis that reveals Erik and Darcy as the main characters of the book, as they figure out what caused this devastating moment. Furthermore, he poses the question “who are the Science Avengers”, implying that Erik and Darcy will gather up a team that will be prominently featured in the story.
Given that The Cosmic Quest is intended to be in continuity with the mainline series of MCU films, this means that Volume 2’s storyline is not meant to be an unrelated spin-off. Therefore, there is a possibility that future MCU movies will include Erik, Darcy, and even the entire Science Avengers team. Time will tell if this possibility will become a reality.
Avengers: Infinity War is now available on Blu-ray and Digital HD.
