Fans of the galaxy far, far away will have plenty to look forward to over the next few years. JJ Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters next December, and Jon Favreau is hard at work on the upcoming The Mandalorian for Disney’s new streaming service. Diego Luna is set to return as the mysterious Cassian Andor in the his very own series on Disney+, and Lucasfilm now has a showrunner attached to lead the project.
Deadline reports that Stephen Schiff, former executive producer on The Americans, will spearhead Diego Luna’s return as Rebellion hero Cassian Andor. Luna reprises the role as the fan favorite freedom fighter from 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The series will follow Andor’s formative years before his death at the hands of the Empire.
Schiff has no shortage of talent, having served as showrunner for The Americans since the show’s second season and leading the FX drama to two Emmy nominations. The series will soon open a writers room, with filming set to begin as soon as next year.
