It has just been revealed that Marvel Studios is fast tracking a Shang–Chi movie. It will be the studios first franchise with an Asian protagonist. And it seems the studio is already fairly far into development as they have already hired a script writer.
The studio has brought in Dave Callaham to write the screenplay for the film. Marvel is also looking for an Asian or Asian-American director to helm the film. It seems that Marvel is hopeful this could have the same success that Black Panther had in that it would blend Asian themes and stories from a creative team made of Asian and Asian-American individuals.
Shang-Chi first appeared in Special Marvel Edition #15 in 1973. There was talk of the character having a solo film in the works at Marvel Studios prior to the launch of the modern-MCU.
Not much else is known about the film as of yet, so for now stay tuned to SuperBroMovies for any updates.
