Sony is looking to bring in some heavy hitters for its newest female-led franchise. According to Collider, Girls Trip star Tiffany Haddish is in talks to star in the 21 Jump Street reboot.
The film will see Haddish go undercover as a teacher at a high school where another cop will pose as her daughter. The studio is currently eyeing Crazy Rich Asians alum Awkwafina for that role.
Haddish has quickly become one of if not the most profile high profile comedic actresses working today. Just this year her credits include Night School alongside Kevin Hart, The Oath, Uncle Drew, and Nobody’s Fool. Next year she will be voicing Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi in the highly-anticipated film, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
This will be Sony’s first attempt to reboot the Jump Street franchise following the release of 22 Jump Street in 2014. There were reports of a possible Men In Black crossover film being in development, which would have served as the third installment of the Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum led franchise, but the project never came to fruition.
