Jared Leto’s anti-hero film has found its female co-star. According to Deadline, Pacific Rim: Uprising actress Adria Arjona has joined the cast of Morbius as Martine Bancroft, the love interest of Dr. Michael Morbius.
The character first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #102 in 1971, one issue after Morbius made his comic debut. Martine Bancroft has a limited comic history, meaning Arjona’s iteration will attempt to flesh her out as Sony continues to expand their cinematic universe.
Arjona is best known for her role in HBO’s True Detective and for starring as Dorothy in NBC’s Emerald City, based on the popular Oz book series. In recent years, the Puerto Rican actress has taken to the big screen, appearing in the Melissa McCarthy led Life of the Party and The Belko Experiment. Next year she will appear alongside Ben Affleck and Oscar Issac in Triple Frontier.
Following the success of Venom, Sony is turning to Leto to keep eyes on the SUMC. Life director Daniel Espinosa will helm Morbius, with a script from Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama.
