It’s a good time to be a DC Extended Universe fan!
Amidst a tidal wave of positive reviews (we over here at SBM loved it) and surprisingly strong box office, James Wan’s Aquaman has once again blown expectations out of the water. H20-related puns aside, Aquaman has officially crossed the $200 million mark domestically as well as making over $822 million worldwide.
On its own, this total is impressive, but when you factor in that Wonder Woman made $821 million worldwide, it’s nothing short of a miracle. Aquaman shows no signs of slowing down either, already winning the battle against fierce competition such as Mary Poppins Returns and BumbleBee while facing very little in the way of new releases to beat in January.
With its box office about to beat the worldwide total of their universe’s highest grossing film- Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice– one has to imagine Warner Bros. and DC are very happy right now. It’ll be interesting to see if they continue to pivot towards solo films like this following Aquaman‘s performance, but it’s safe to say that many are craving a return to Atlantis.
What do you make of Aquaman surpassing Wonder Woman‘s worldwide total? Do you think it’ll break the billion mark?
