When Ruby Rose was cast as Batwoman for the CW’s annual DC crossover, fans were hoping she would get her own standalone series on the network. It seems like her appearance on Elseworlds and the positive reception was enough to impress producers because a pilot was officially ordered by the CW.
David Nutter, who helmed Game of Thrones and pilots for Arrow and The Flash, is on board to direct the pilot led by showrunner and writer Caroline Dries and exec producer Greg Berlanti.
Here’s The CW’s official description of their first lesbian-led DC show:
Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.
If the pilot is approved, Batwoman will soon have her own full-fledged show on the CW and join the ranks of other DC heroes like Supergirl, Flash, and the Green Arrow.
