With the sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle currently in production, the filmmakers are in the process of adding new cast members to the film. Recently, news broke out that Awkwafina was likely to join the movie’s cast in addition to Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan reprising their roles from the previous entry. It turns out that yet another cast member has been introduced to the Jumanji franchise, and a major name at that: Danny DeVito.
Neither a plot synopsis nor DeVito’s character description has been released yet, though Johnson has expressed excitement about the prospect of the It’s Always Sunny in Philadephia star being incorporated into the movie:
“The magic of Jumanji is who becomes who. And the idea of Danny DeVito joining our cast was too irresistible and something we knew we wanted to deliver to our audience this upcoming Christmas.”
Since little is known about DeVito’s role in the film, it is left up to speculation on how his presence will impact the overall narrative. Perhaps he could be a minor character in the Jumanji game or he could be a key player in the real world. For the time being, DeVito fans can rest assured they can get to see him in more 2019 movies, as he also appears in the Tim Burton-directed Dumbo in the next few months.
