As Avengers: Endgame presumably prepares to phase out multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe mainstays, it’s comforting to know that one has got his eyes (eye?) on staying in these movies: Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.
In an interview chronicling his rise to becoming the most bankable star in Hollywood, Samuel L. Jackson mused about wanting to play Nick Fury into his 80s, musing:
I could be the Alec Guinness of Marvel movies
The comparison with Guinness’ Obi-Wan Kenobi really fits, as Nick Fury has already served as a mentor of sorts for many heroes in the MCU, so seeing him age even more so into that role is certainly enticing. Moreover, from his very first appearance in Iron Man‘s iconic post-credits sequence he’s been so essential for the MCU that it’s hard to imagine it without him.
There is, unfortunately, the question of whether or not Marvel will continue to pay him the rates that he’s become accustomed to, to which Jackson replies:
I’m a gunslinger now
Despite his brash attitude, it’s unlikely Marvel will want to let a pillar of their films like Jackson go. Here’s hoping his enthusiasm for the character continues!
