Christopher McQuarrie has just accepted a few more missions for Paramount Pictures. The writer/director has been tasked with writing and directing the next two installments in the Mission: Impossible franchise.
McQuarrie, fresh off the critical and commercial success of the franchises sixth installment Mission: Impossible – Fallout, has been asked to return to the franchise he’s been apart of since Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. Not only is he returning to write and direct both, they’ll be filmed back-to-back. The first is rumored to come out summer of 2021 with the sequel coming summer of 2022. No plot details are known at this time.
McQuarrie confirmed his return via a tweet that should sound familiar:

No start date has been officially set but the rumor is to begin filming sometime in 2019.
Cruise is expected to return with no other confirmation on the M:I mainstays like Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson or the possible return of Jeremy Renner.
