Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is one of the most profitable, albeit busy men in the entirety of Hollywood. From hosting ‘Titan Games’ on NBC to producing the indie film Wrestling With My Family to shooting scenes for Hobbs & Shaw to rumors of a return to the WWE for its upcoming WrestleMania 35, his slate is VERY full in terms of projects.
Due to this fact, it has to be extremely difficult to nail him down for any given amount of time. Which results in certain film franchises he has long been attached to miss out on his star power. During a recent conversation with MTV News, The Rock confirmed that he is not likely to return for the upcoming 9th film in the Fast and the Furious franchise.
“As of now, we’re not in Fast 9 because they’re getting ready to start shooting. But who knows with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know. Because look, at the end of the day, the truth is, there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished.”
Take a look at the video below for yourself:
The Rock serves as an executive producer on the Fast and Furious spinoff Hobbs and Shaw, so he is clearly very close with the men and women in power at Universal Pictures, the studio responsible for the billion-dollar series of films.
Vin Diesel took to Instagram to confirm that Fast and Furious 9 would be heading to London to film beginning next month.
While Hobbs and Shaw as a current release date of July 26, 2019, Fast and Furious 9 has been pushed back to April 10, 2020. So, there is still time for The Rock to make arrangements to appear in the film, the current word is that his character will not be a part of the action-packed film.
What do you think? Will the 9th Fast and Furious film pack less of a punch due to the exclusion of The Rock? Let us know in the comments below and @superbromovies. – Christian Hubbard
