BLUMHOUSE Is Planning To Develop Its Own Cinematic Universe

With Blumhouse Productions making a name for itself by producing some of the most iconic horror franchises of the 2010s, including Paranormal ActivityThe Purge and Insidious, many have been wondering how the company will expand its horizons. In addition to rebooting the Halloween series in 2018, it has something much grander on its mind. It turns out that the company plans to connect several of its established properties to each other through a cinematic universe.

In a recent interview with CinePOP promoting the studio’s latest outing, Happy Death Day 2U, Blumhouse founder Jason Blum revealed his interest in developing an all-encompassing world for his movies:

“We would like to do that. We’re thinking about it. It would’ve been easier to do if I thought of it earlier, but we’re thinking about doing it with some of [our films] anyway, and it’s something I’d really like to do.”

Although Blum does not make it clear which films he wants to incorporate into this universe, it is evident that he intends to do it with his most profitable works. As such, fans can expect the universe to feature characters from films such as Happy Death Day and Sinister, in addition to the aforementioned franchises. Given that it has found commercial success through its films individually, it will be interesting to see how the universe develops as it features more Blumhouse properties.
