CONFIRMED: Taika Waititi Won’t Direct ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

The people’s runner up for best director to replace James Gunn for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has spoken!

According to The Wrap, Waititi told reporters this week at the Television Critics Association press tour “Nope. Not doing that movie”. The Thor: Ragnorak director also added

“I’m hanging out with [Marvel] still. Talking about new stuff, but I don’t know what that might be yet. I want to do another movie.”

Though it remains uncertain who will eventually be at the helm of the beloved Guardians franchise, Waititi is still in talks to do another movie for Marvel. This comes at no surprise given the unparalleled success Ragnorak had with audiences and the box office. What Marvel character would suit Waititi’s eye for brilliantly awkward humour? That’s a question that could be debated up until any official announcement is made.

Waititi also mentioned his respect for the Guardians films and quotes:

“For me, that’s James’ film,” he continued. “Going into something like that, which has got his stamp all over it, it would feel like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad.”

It’s clear that the Guardians are still a sensitive subject and Marvel does not seem to be in any rush to find a new director. With James Gunn officially helming the second installment of the infamous Suicide Squad at DC, Marvel might need to start looking into a solid choice to compete with DC’s upcoming superhero action-comedy.

Who do you think should be chosen to direct the next Guardians of the Galaxy? What Marvel character would be perfect on screen with Taika Waititi’s direction? Sound off over on @SuperBroMovies!
