Another DC project has been put on the backburner. According to Forbes, Warner Bros. is no longer developing Glenn Ficarra and John Requa’s Joker vs. Harley Quinn.
In 2017, it was announced that Crazy, Stupid, Love directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa were in final negotiations to write and helm an untitled film centering around Harley Quinn and Joker. That movie would ultimately be titled Joker vs. Harley Quinn and was set to focus on the two villain’s unstable relationship.
Ficarra and Requa spoke about what their film would have looked like, comparing it to two projects they had worked on in the past:
“It was sort of like, we wrote ‘Bad Santa’ a couple of years ago, and it was that sensibility mixed with our ‘This Is Us’ sensibility. We kind of meshed them together. We were doing a relationship movie but with the sensibility of a ‘Bad Santa,’ f*cked up, mentally deranged people. It was a lot of fun.”
Following the shakeup at WB, it does not appear as if there is room for a movie focused on Harley and Joker. Margot Robbie has transitioned to focus on Birds of Prey, which will attempt to distance Harley from her abusive partner. Leto has seemingly left Joker behind to work on Morbius for Sony, which allowed Joaquin Phoenix to swoop in and get his Joker film made.
