Now before we go any further, make sure to take this news with a grain of salt. According to an Avengers: Infinity War cast list posted on Metacritic, the character of Silver Surfer is set to appear in the film portrayed by actor Curt Clendenin.

No other information was provided regarding the character’s involvement or even the actor. Clendenin has no reported role in the film outside of this cast listing, meaning that someone would have to have gone to a lot of trouble fake casting a character in a seemingly official cast listing.

The other hiccup is that Silver Surfer is owned by 20th Century Fox, at least for the moment. The deal between Fox and Disney won’t get approved for over a year meaning they shouldn’t hold the rights to the character until the deal is finalized. There are a couple possible scenarios that will get over that hump. The first being that Disney made a sort of trade for the rights like we saw with Ego and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. The other being somehow Disney and Fox coown the rights to Surfer like they do with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.

You also may be asking yourself who is Curt Clendenin? The actor doesn’t have many credits to his name but it’s a possibility he’ll be providing the motion capture for the character. The same way Laurence Fishburne provided the voice for the character in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Doug Jones was the motion capture performer. That could mean Marvel looks to bring in a more well-known actor to provide the voice.

This is all speculatory at this point, we won’t know if this report is accurate until the film actually hits theaters. Silver Surfer was an integral part of the Infinity Gauntlet storyline in the comics, meaning if Marvel were able to acquire his rights we wouldn’t hear a thing from them until after the release of the film due to the nature of his role in the story.

It was also reported late last month that a Silver Surfer solo movie was in development at Fox. The status of most of Fox’s Marvel-related projects are still up in the air so take that as you will.
