Gambit is one of those projects that has seemingly been stuck in production Hell forever. Fans of the Ragin’ Cajun jumped on board when Channing Tatum, who is also from New Orleans, first expressed interest in the character four years ago. A popular and rising star who appreciates and connects with a popular Marvel mutant seemed like a slam dunk. Progress has been slow moving since then. Earlier today at Comic Con, however, Channing Tatum confirmed to ComicBook.com that the film is still on.
“Yeah, of course. We’re working on it now.”
Earlier this year it was announced that director Doug Liman had walked away from the film. Since then, producer Hutch Parker claimed that the solo movie set in the X-Men universe has been moving along as planned, but fans couldn’t help but feel pessimistic about the film’s progress. Confirmation by the film’s lead may help some of those fans who are excited for Gambit breathe a little easier, but it’ll be interesting to see who 20th Century Fox pegs to helm the director’s chair. –Kevin Bond
