A new trailer for ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ just dropped, and it reveals to us some new details of the overall plot of the movie.
The trailer starts out at what looks like the same forest the apes lived in in the last movie, only this time it’s snowing. There’s voice over of characters from the previous two movies including Will Rodman’s father from ‘Rise’ and Malcolm from ‘Dawn.’ It seems like a big part of the movie will be Caesar reflecting on his past and showing how he has evolved as a leader over the course of the films.

Some soldiers are seen submitting to Caesar in disbelief. They’ve presumably traveled a long way to get there and ask him to either start fighting against the humans or end the war against the humans, I’m guessing.

A new ape that we’ve never seen before explains his story of the virus: “Human get sick. Ape get smart. Then human kill ape, but not me. I won.” This ape probably came from Gen-Sys or another laboratory that was experimenting on apes, and he successfully fought back against the humans. It is unclear, though, why he would just now be joining the other apes.

Woody Harrelson’s character, the Colonel, is addressing an army of people at a military base. It looks like the humans send a preemptive strike on the apes, which starts the war between them. If there’s one thing we learned from the last movie, it’s that Caesar doesn’t like when people kills apes from his tribe.

There are some more shots of the mysterious girl from the first trailer whose identity remains to be revealed, but it looks like she has a special relationship with the gorilla.

The rest of the trailer is mostly battle between the apes and the humans, and it looks amazing. I think it will be just as good, if not better than the battle from ‘Dawn.’ There also appears to be multiple battles, seeing as there is fighting on the ape territory and human territory. Caesar yells his notorious line, “Apes together strong!” over all the chaos, but it is paralleled by the human’s chant, “We are the beginning and the end.”
One thing that looks really interesting is that there’s a new ape that has joined sides with the humans for some reason. The humans may have raised the ape as a baby or he could’ve switched to their side. Either way, this ape has Caesar held prisoner, but he appears to be the only ape prisoner in this shot. The humans probably have him imprisoned while they attack the rest of the tribe.

This shot looks similar to the setting at the end of the original ‘Planet of the Apes.’

One of the most interesting aspects of the movie looks to be the confrontations between Caesar and the Colonel. He looks to be a worthy adversary to Caesar, physically and mentally. At the end of the trailer, the Colonel says to Caesar while they’re at the ape territory, “Have you come to save your apes?” This leads me to believe that the humans imprisoned the rest of the apes, but Caesar comes back to free them and fight the human leader.

Overall, this trailer has me very excited for the third installment of the Planet of the Apes franchise. What did you think of the trailer? Let us know on twitter @SuperBroMovies.
