While Disney may have purchased 20th Century Fox, which has caused many to assume a hard reboot of the X-Men in the MCU, there is still one mainline film left in Fox’s X-Men universe. Next year Fox will release Dark Phoenix which last month we got our first glimpse of in a series of stills from the film, and it seems we now have a few new images from the film to analyze.

Four new stills were released in the latest issue of Empire Magazine and feature three scenes from the film along with a new look at Sophie Turner as the Phoenix possessed Jean Grey.

The first still teases the budding romance between Turner’s Jean Grey and Tye Sheridan’s Cyclops. And while we know they are destined to become a couple in the future it looks like Dark Phoenix will bring their relationship to the fore.

The next still features what looks like a tense scene between Professor X and Jessica Chastain’s unnamed villain. While we are still unsure who Chastain is playing, the main theory is that she is playing the shapeshifting Skrull empress, taking the place of Lilandra of the Shi’ar from the comics.

Finally we have one of the most alarming of all the stills as it features Michael Fassbender’s Magneto unconscious with someone tieing a rope around his neck, It has been revealed that either Professor X, Magneto, Beast or Mystique will die in Dark Phoenix, and while this image could hint at it being Magneto the odds of the studio giving away such a crucial plot point is very slim.

We were also given a new look at Turner in her Phoenix form from the film.
