It’s been awhile since the sequel to Suicide Squad was announced, but now it seems like development on it is moving quicker than ever. Warner Bros. is very serious about their commitment to the project, as they have now added Producer Michael De Luca (The Social Network) to the sequel.
Suicide Squad wasn’t well received by most, with some even calling it the worst film of the DC Film Universe, but it’s a pretty large success in other areas. It grossed almost 800 million globally, and it didn’t even get released in China. It even got an Academy Award for Makeup, so naturally, a sequel was announced soon after. Adding Michael De Luca to produce Suicide Squad 2 is a pretty big step, so it seems like they really want to get this one filming as soon as possible.
De Luca is mostly known for this work on The Social Network and Moneyball but recently has moved on to higher budget films like the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise. His addition likely means that the studio is moving make their films with one producer behind it in an effort to streamline the production.
Warner Bros. is also reportedly planning to shoot the film late this year, as Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant) is still set to write and direct with Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto all set to return.
