Fancasting The YOUNG AVENGERS In The MCU

Following the release of Marvel’s Ant-Man and The Wasp, the internet has been buzzing about the idea of introducing the Young Avengers into the MCU. The team debuted in the comics in 2005 with one of their founding members being Cassie Lang, Scott Lang’s daughter. It was teased throughout Ant-Man and The Wasp that at some point we would see Cassie suit up on the big screen, so who could be joining her in the MCU’s Young Avengers?

Cassie Lang/Stature – Emma Fuhrmann

Let’s start out with an easy one. The character of Cassie has been featured in two MCU films portrayed by Abby Ryder Fortson. The young actress has done a phenomenal job, although, we won’t see her reprise the role in Avengers 4 as Emma Fuhrmann has been cast as Cassie. The likely reason for that is that there will be a time jump between the events of Infinity War and Avengers 4, meaning Cassie will be older than when we lost saw her.

So with that in mind, it’s easy to conclude that Fuhrmann would eventually take on the role of Stature. She has appeared in a few feature films including Blended with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. This pick wasn’t exactly what one would consider fancasting, we’ll just have to wait and see how Fuhrmann takes on the role before forming any concrete opinions.

Elijah Bradley/Patriot – John Boyega

A movie needs a bankable lead and John Boyega is the embodiment of bankable at this point. The Star Wars actor has proved himself as a franchise leading man and him joining the MCU seems like a foregone conclusion. He would bring a certain level of charisma to the role that we’ve seen him utilize in every movie he’s in. Having Boyega help usher a group of young superheroes into the MCU seems like the right move.

A little about Bradley, he’s the grandson of Isiah Bradley who held the mantle of Captain America at one point in the comics. He joined the Young Avengers after fellow member Iron Lad came looking for his brother but found him instead.

Kate Bishop/Hawkeye – Anya Taylor Joy

Rumors began circulating earlier this year that Marvel could be considering a Hawkeye solo movie, with the character of Kate Bishop as the lead. If that was to happen, the film could be a precursor to an eventual Young Avengers film.

Anya Taylor Joy broke onto the scene following her role in 2016s Split. She held her own against James McAvoy which likely landed her the role of Magik in The New Mutants, which was intended to release this year before being delayed. And as we all know, it appears Disney will be acquiring the rights to all the Fox Marvel characters, meaning its unlikely Joy will reprise her role as Magik, giving her the opportunity to join the MCU.

Kate Bishop is a strong-willed character with an incredible set of skills. Joy has shown up to this point that can she handle most anything that’s thrown her way so taking on a badass archer shouldn’t be a problem for the young actress.

Nathaniel Richards/Iron Lad – Timothée Chalamet

In the comics, Iron Lad is a very complex character. He is the one who forms the Young Avengers after learning that in the future he becomes the villain Kang the Conqueror. The individual who takes on this role they would need a wide range, which is why Timothée Chalamet is the one for the job.

Chalamet was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Call Me by Your Name last year, making him one of the up and coming stars in Hollywood. It’s only a matter of time before Chalamet joins a franchise so why shouldn’t it be the Young Avengers?

William Kaplan/Wiccan – Ezra Miller

I know I know but hear me out. Miller wouldn’t be the first actor to play a comic character for both Marvel and DC so don’t count him out. He’s an underrated actor who can steal the show when given the opportunity so tapping him as one of the core Young Avengers would be a smart move.

Wiccan is the son of Scarlet Witch and Vision, which right now might not make sense but wait until after Avengers 4. It would be a tough sell for them to have a child who’s as old as Miller but stranger things have happened in the MCU.

Dorrek VIII/Hulkling – Gabriel Chavarria

Gabriel Chavarria isn’t exactly a household name so bear with me. Hulkling is a character that would likely be motion capture so casting a relative unknown could work at an advantage. Chavarria is best well known for his role as Preacher in War for the Planet of the Apes so motion capture acting isn’t all that foreign to him.

Hulkling could be an opportunity for an actor looking to breakout. Chavarria could take the role and run with it.

    1. I wanted to keep the list compact and having a core 6 seemed like the best move for an eventual movie. I think speed is a character that can be explored in sequels.
